Filament Stretching Rheometer


One feature that sets the filament stretching rheometer apart from other extensional techniques is the fact that the measurement is made at a single point. This is contrary to shear rheology, which calculates the stress over the cross sectional area of the sample plates./p>

In a filament stretching rheometer, the measurement is made at the location of the smallest diameter (highest stress), often located at the midfilament position.

Soft materials deform unpredictably in extensional flow.
